Tenants face eviction or non-renewal of contract if they keep pets at home

Dubai: Pet owners in Ghoroob Community, Mirdiff, have been asked to remove their pets within seven days or risk eviction.
A notice served to residents on March 11 reads: “We have noticed that you have kept a dog in your apartment… Please note that as per Dubai Municipality rules, and regulations and our tenancy contract and community rules signed by you, pets are not permitted in Ghoroob Community… accommodating pets is a direct violation of your lease terms and conditions.”

Taziz Property Management, the property managers of Ghoroob, said offenders face a possible termination or non-renewal of tenancy contract.
“This is in breach of community guidelines. We do not expect to write to you again regarding the matter… if you continue keeping a pet then this will lead to a violation order served on you for a possible termination/non-renewal of your tenancy contract…”
Alarmed by the development, pet owners in the community are seeking to find temporary homes for their animals. Some said they would rather move out than abandon their animals.
“It’s really sad. They have given me no choice, we will be moving out soon,” said an Indian expat who owns a Yorkshire Terrier.
Taziz said the tenancy contract forbids residents from keeping pets at home. “We have received numerous complaints about dogs, some of which are unleashed and pose a threat to residents, especially children. As property managers, it is our obligation to ensure all tenants feel safe and secure.”
